Who we are

Forest of Interbeing is a 100 % voluntary project, initiated by the community of Wake Up International. We cooperate with the association DEMATAC (Defenders of the Environment of Los Tuxtlas) which has more than 12 years of experience of working in conservation of nature. It is the region’s main environmental NGO (non-governmental organization) and represents the NGOs in the advisory board of the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve. We also seek to work together with all other organizations, associations, institutions and schools in the region which share the same objectives of protecting the natural heritage and promoting a conscious lifestyle.

We are a multidisciplinary group, including members who have studied or are studying environmental engineering, geography, anthropology, economy, communication, tourism, psychology, and art. For specific technical questions we are supported by friends who are biologers and forestry engineers. In addition, we are constantly working in enhancing our capacities and knowledge on conservation of natural resources. Friends from Wake Up in other parts of Mexico and all over the world assist us in the dissemination of our activities and in fundraising for the projects we realize.

We connect our activities with the practice of mindfulness, based on the teachings of zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, which help us to work joyfully and in harmony and to remain calm in difficult situations. Some of us meet regularly in San Andrés Tuxtlas to realize practices like sitting and walking meditation and deep relaxation.

We invite you to join us, if you are interested please send us a message to wakeupforest@gmail.com or to our Facebook page.
